Regular Gas vs Premium Gas Empty Regular Gas vs Premium Gas

Just a little input, we save approximately $ 5000 annualy switching from regular gas to premium gas, the comparison was made between 2012 ( regular gas ) and 2013 ( premium gas ). Vans are Ford E250s, 8 cylinders, one 4.6l and the others 5.2l
Seems like the van's engines and truckmounts are running smoother too.
Anyone else using premium gas that gets the higher gas mileage ??

Yes, definitely a noticeable improvement!

I tested the mileage in a few cars/trucks many yrs ago, and found it to be 10%
better when running premium/higher octane fuel.......and not only that, but as you mentioned DP, engines run better too!  wink

5% higher cost per gallon in exchange for 10% better fuel mileage is a hell of a deal if you ask me!! wink ........it's like making money while you drive!  laughing laughing

Premium on every vehicle my entire life. Once you tear down a few motors you realize the difference in deposits that lower grade fuel leaves, less rust in the tank, fuel pumps last longer, plugs burn cleaner, and like Davey points out...better mileage and power.

To be more accurrate, higher grades of fuel without ethanol will provide better mileage and less deposits. Lower grades generally carry a higher percenage of ethanol and that is where the problem lies.

My car requires 87 octane, but there has been dealer bulletins for years recommending customers to switch to higher grades due to issues. I get greater mpg, and my injectors haven't been a problem since switching 7 years ago.

If you can find a low grade without ethanol, there may not be any difference.

A while back I found Plus or mid grade to be the best value. But gas is different in different states, Arco is garbage I wont put that in a weedwacker

But chevron regular is actually pretty good

Diesel though is a different story, Premium diesel makes a huge difference. On a tanks of premium diesel we averaged 15.5mpg in the box truck

with regular low sulfur diesel we get 13.5-14 max

what are you guys smoking?

You should compare the result in long term use, at least a couple months and compare the last month you use premium and the last month you were using regular gas, you'll see your monthly bill drops assuming you drive similar mileage between the 2 months that you're comparing, I'm not working for oil companies Razz as a matter of fact I hate them but if I can save a couple thousand dollars a year, why not ?
