Quick Tip: Repairing plastic with Baking Soda and Super Glue

Hey Guys,

I thought I would share with you a quick tip on how to weld plastic joints or cracks using two items you probably have around the house.
Baking soda and super glue. It makes an incredibly strong weld and it works instantly.

I had a long crack on one of my vac filters (pool filter) that I needed to repair so I could use it for tomorrow's job. I rubbed as much baking soda as I could on both sides of the crack to pack it in. I then sprinkled some more along the the crack. Then I took my super glue and put drops all along the crack. In about 5 seconds it had created a nice hard weld and the crack was no more. I repeated this on the other side of the crack as well. Vac filter is back in business! Its may not be pretty, but it will get me by until I can buy one of Joe's silver bullets. This combo will work on any plastic that needs repair.

To give you an idea how fast and how strong the weld is, take a look at the youtube video below. I think the guy is welding two pieces of wood or plastic together. You might have to turn up your volume because he mumbles thru it, but you'll get the idea:

I love tips like these, they are very creative. My favorite is the ballistic ice that you make using wood shavings or shredded paper in water forms. Once frozen, they can stop a .45 up close and melt at half the rate of normal ice.

The British even made a battleship using this ice to operate in the North Sea during WW2. I don't think they ever actually took it past the prototype phase however.
