Ford Van -- Opening Rear Door Issue......
Anyone ever have that common can't open rear door from the outside handle problem?
If so, please explain how you fixed it.
From what I've seen, on my 2 vans, and read on the interwebs, that either the end breaks off the cable or like mine the cable just gets so stretched out it will no longer move the latch to open the door.

You have to take the door panel off and trip door latch with your hand or screwdriver then replace the cable.

I had that happened to the side door on mine the screws holding the lock mechanism loosens up and stays on the lock position.
Re: Ford Van -- Opening Rear Door Issue......
Ive also had the problem on side and passenger doors and was able to fix it by tightening, but my back door the cable is stretched out to the limit. And I'd like to find a fix rather than Ford's $100+ kit, which is a bunch of crap I don't need. Like to buy the $5 cable, but they don't sell it.

Just mount a door knob from ACE Hardware....well, maybe not.
Re: Ford Van -- Opening Rear Door Issue......
I just tried to fix it and it was a total fail.
But I found an after market cable online and ordered it.
Looks like I'll be climbing threw van to open door for a couple days.

Well, that shucks Dave, think positive, at least you have about 3 feet gap between your side door and the TM where I only have less than a foot, I would get my skinny a$$ stuck in there before I even step my foot in.

Re: Ford Van -- Opening Rear Door Issue......
I had the rear doors on my GMC get frozen shut last winter due to a water leak in my softener that slowly poured out the back. Due to the butler lay out, there is no way to get to the back from the side door unless you were a dwarf lathered up in axle grease.
Consider yourself lucky, I had to take a propane torch to get my doors open.

Well, thanks again to Doorman I was able to get it fixed. Doorman after market parts have saved me many times, by selling replacement parts the auto manufactures don't sell alone.
In this case Ford sells the entire rear door latch assy, just so you can get the new cables, for only $200......Doorman sells the needed replacement cables for $20!

Not sure you can order directly from doorman because they're the manufacture. I bought the cables threw amazon, and have bought other doorman stuff threw online auto parts stores.

Ask any of my neighbors about those doors always wanting to close on me....they certainly have heard a few colorful words over the years.
