Picked up a few more buildings today
Odd day, it is very gloomy and cold here with a miserable misting to cheer you up. I didn't have anything scheduled for today so I thought that I would just do some light maintenance and stay inside.
Then I got a call from one of my contracts advising me that they wanted to add 2 more buildings to the monthly cleaning schedule....another 16k feet total between the two.
Winter is starting to shape up pretty good after-all and I still have some meetings this week on the schedule to try for a few more.
I guess you can't judge the day by the weather.

Nice pick up. Usually on a cold snowy day the phone calls come to screeching halt. I had two jobs scheduled today and I woke up to 2 inched of rain did the first and rescheduled the second. I hate cleaning in the cold.
Re: Picked up a few more buildings today
A cold rain is the worst....don't blame you at all.
If it wasn't for the sauna in my basement, I would have left this State many winters back.

Yeah I want a Jacuzzi for Christmas. I really think spending up a couple of hours every night in the Jacuzzi is what sped up the healing process of my pinched nerve.
Most people here understand the inconvenience of cleaning in the snow. Now if she would have already moved furniture I would made the appointment.

Cold temps? 65° is cold?
Actually I see the over night forecast says "28". Holy cow.

Constant rain over here, thank goodness it only dropped to about 50 at night or else we would be shoveling out over a foot of snow by now.
That is dodging a big bullet.

If that pinched nerve still bugging you after a couple of months, I would have it checked to the doctor if it were me, you wouldn't want anything serious happened to your disc or vertebrae, or if you're like me ( I hate doctors ), go find a really good chiropractor and get adjusted a couple of times plus have some ibuprofen for a week, I'm still recovering from low back pain too, my chiropractor told me it was a torn muscle and he said it will take a couple of months to fully recover, it sucks

Any time an injury doesn't heal on its own means it is time to go see the gourd shaker. A bad disc in your neck is very common as we get older, but it is good to fix them when younger as you recover faster.
Torn muscle in the back has to suck Dp, sorry to hear about that. I have a minor tear in my left thigh that has lingered for the last 3 months now...just doesn't want to heal, but then how do rest something that you use every day?
Geez, we sound old.

Oh, and I just went down to view these new buildings in person. The best part was that I also picked up 2 more lobby areas in other buildings (only 3200 sqft) that they need cleaned.
The high point was them telling me how they just purchased a couple of commercial carpet walk-behind cleaners to "touch up" areas between cleanings.
They said that they worked really well, but the carpet would be just as dirty in about a week. Gee, no kidding.
I expect to see additional work coming very soon. I love those portable machines and Facility Managers that think they can save money by replacing my services. My stock rises each time.

LOL, congrats !! I am getting to the point of enjoying commercial work, I got a couple of pretty good size accounts this past year myself which one of them started out with a very small area ( elevator landing ). I'm going to enjoy them more in the winter ( January through April ) because of the slowing down, they're steady income.

Commercial and winter go together like steak and potatoes. The best part is that they often grow in size and scope on their own when you do quality work.
If it wasn't for those kind of contracts, I would have gone under years ago.

Re: Picked up a few more buildings today
ya commercial work and empty homes are my favorite which is one reason I like that we are not known for big furniture moving carpet cleaning jobs... causes us to get tons and tons of empties
I did a house late last week that was so furniture heavy and just outright horrible placement of everything, was actually one of the most difficult and annoying jobs I can remember for a long time.
Entries to rooms would have the back of the couch right there with a few feet to walk by on each side, each room had 4-5 end tables for some reason and about 5 or 6 chairs. Bookshelves and little desks in the hallways with little trinkets on them. Obviously she ignored the prep email, but weve cleaned 4 times for her in the past so maybe she figured she didnt need to read it.
Her house was never this crowded before and man did she have so much dust caked up in all the corners because she had so much stuff. It really is true the more stuff you have the more dust you have

I used to see that a lot AC when the divorced with children re-marry. For some reason, they both want to keep their furniture so you end up with 2 of everything to clean around.
More Furniture....more dust, I believe it. No air flow around all that crap so as the velocity drops, so does the dust.
