Yes, I did it! I'm not sure how much better suction is, since I don't have tools to measure, but  feels better so far. And much easier to access the tank

Drill bit from Home Depot and a lot of oil. Two person job: one slowly drills, another drops oil almost constantly

I have tried to use a hole saw on ss and it was awful. Took 30 minutes of agony to get a hole. Made me wish I had a plasma cutter.
