Potential Cleaning Truck?
I've seen about every type of vehicle getting used as cleaning truck lately, but this might become one of the more unique ones if someone decided to do it....I am actually toying with the idea.
I still haven't nailed down the next vehicle for my Judson build and it is driving me nuts. I liked the beverage truck idea, but the only ones that I found were in sad shape and would take too much work. I tried step vans, but they failed to impress as well. The only box trucks out in my area are rusted up hulks with 16 - 24 foot boxes and I don't like the narrow sprinters.
So, I have been back to shopping for a 1-ton extended van or maybe even doing a trailer build at this point. Then I found this weird listing on Craigslist....a gutted shuttle bus!!
http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/4523587742.html
Once you stop laughing at the exterior, take a look inside and read the description...it has potential. It has diamond plate flooring, exhaust fans, security windows, super low mile powerstroke, huge gvwr, and tons of interior space!! The side door is workable with the steps and it has a good rear cargo door as well.
The only real problem that I have is the obvious funky exterior, the fact it probably has lots of idle time on what is probably an airport shuttle van, and it doesn't state the length. Other than that....might make a very unique yet capable alternative to the standard box truck.

Actually, now that I step back and think about it....it was probably a paddy wagon or prisoner transport vehicle as the entry door was in front of the bulkhead. That would explain the security windows and the light bar as well.
Now I am really seeing portential....hope to hear back from the seller.

Like I said, it is an odd choice to be sure, but it looks like it might be easy to work out of which is most important to me at this point.
Still hard to get past the obvious exterior.....trying to adjust to that thought.

Can you swap out those privacy panels with openable widows for better ventilation.?
Appears as it could use a little more airflow.

Re: Potential Cleaning Truck?
That's a good question...I am sure that they available (half open anyway). Right now it would just be via the dual exhaust fans that are built into the vehicle and the rear door.
Definitely something to research...thanks for the thought.

It might work. I seen a lays potato truck with a PC Everest in it. It has an all alum. body so no rust roll up back door owner said mph was around 16 worked for him. He has three.

You think the graphics would look good on that van with all the windows?

Nope, they sure wouldn't.....with a vehicle like this, you will stand out without graphics in small towns. People will recognize it very quickly and hopefully, the crooks would not even think about breaking into a shuttle bus.
Or....the graphics would include people's faces like they were riding on the bus. Go with famous people or maybe just some of the customers for local recognition??
Re: Potential Cleaning Truck?
You could use the windows like individual billboards. A simple paint scheme with advertising placards built in would look nice. I would love to have all that room and be able to stand up as well. You even have room for a lavatory if you want. Don't think too long, someone else will buy it.
On another note, I always thought one of those toy hauler trailers would make a nice setup. You could skid mount all the equipment and slide it in and up front you've got all the amenities of home.

That's true Eric each window could be used for each service you offer.
Rob, you could have pictures of convicts riding the bus Kind of like the plumber in my town with a graphic on his side door with a guy on the toilet from the shoulder down so it looks like the driver is taking a crap

Re: Potential Cleaning Truck?
Good find there Brian...I guess someone else was ahead of me in thinking these vehicles might work. What are the odds of that??
