1.5" Wand and Whip
I've never used anything less than 2" wand and 2" hose all the way to the wand.
I'm looking at buying 2 new wands (1 for each of the remaining vans).
Maybe I'm getting old, actually, definitely I'm getting old, but 1.5" wand and 1.5" whip hose is sounding kinda nice.
It just sounds lighter. Easier.
Do I need to be talked out of this?

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
Sounds like you want to trade performance for comfort...1.5 hose is easier to work with, but not enough to give up performance IMHO.
Try it and find out, but I was glad to rid myself of 1.5 inch wands and those titanium 2 inchers are still lighter than those 1.5 inchers.
Go Titanium and be happy.

Yes, you need to be talked outa it, Bill.
Stick with the 2", esp. with those 33/36 blowers.

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
If you have smaller size blower, I would discourage you from doing that, especially since you have technicians working, if they blast through rooms with 1.5" wand, drying time will be insanely long, you'll get call backs, browning, etc.
Even if you do the work yourself, you wouldn't want to spend an hour or more cleaning 2 rooms.
I agree with Robert, get a pmf titanium from Joe, they're about $ 800 with glide, shear kit, custom length, soft touch valve, hope the price hasn't increased though.

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
We use one on the stair tool, its about 6ft long.. the stair hook goes right at the connection of 2in and 1.5. I dont mind 2in on the wand but on the stair tool its a must I think, makes it so much easier and I havent noticed a difference so far in performance.

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
Got some good questions on the board these last few days. Some most are to timid to ask. I went through the same question a year in business. No doubt, walking away from that whip is the way to got. Oh yeah and the VT 14 is a must to consider. Light weight with performance. The window is extremely helpful.

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
I have a wand Joe sells great sheer drys great 6 flow 1 1/2 inch 2 jet wand I use a vinyl cuff right on the end of the wand with a 2 inch cuff slipped over the top no need for a whip at all.
Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
I don't use this wand that often but it is easy to use and cleans great I also carry 6 fans.
Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
Sorry Sam, but what you don't know, you don't know........reallllly no need for "6 fans", unless it's a big water loss.
Have you ever used a 1.75-2" tubed wand without the 1.5" whip hose?
If so, then I guess "I don't know"?

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
I use a 4' 1.5 whip to my 2" vac hose, like acpower says much easier when cleaning upholstery and cleaning and drying stairs, Makes my life easier, I do not feel that there is much lost performance if you keep it under 4 '

Joe Bristor wrote:Different strokes...
the thread started out about wanding with a 1.5 whip. Consensus said no. This is high production money grab work. Use the shortest, fattest, straightest hose runs for this work and use the most powerful extractor you got, 2" wand, rotary, etc.
Use the most flexible, high heat 2" lead hose made (Lil Better) with bend restrictor at the wand as needed.
Keep it no more than 25 feet long. Make it a custom color. Brag about it.
For stairs, do like Bill & Deb, get a 1 3/4 stairtool that flares to 2" and a 1 3/4 to 2" vinyl cuff that attaches it to 10-15ft lead of 1.5" Lil Better in your favorite color and brag about it.
For upholstery buy an uph tool that comes standard with a 10-12ft whip of 1.25" (PCUT) or 1.5" whip (Sapphire, DM, RV) or get the el cheapo $49 uph tool and add your own custom colored 1.5" whip.
Use the Stair Climber Universal Strap for all these applications. It takes the weight of the hoses off your arms and transfers it to your waist.
Use it with full length wand coming down the stairs. Use it as a Helper, dragging your 2" around behind you as you wand or rotary extract. Use it as a hose hook and vac hose coil minder.
(All this, my humble, completely biased recommendations, honed from years of following some of the world's greatest cleaners).
And brag about it Damn it!
Seriously, whatever it is be proud of it and make sure the customer knows their getting the best....I hear ya Joe

Re: 1.5" Wand and Whip
I have quite a few wands in the shop (over 14 of them). I too thought the 1-1/2" wand would be better when you are getting up there in age (I am now 69 years old and cleaning 2-5 jobs a day). I have three 2" wands.
The only one I use is Joe's titanium.
It does a better job (has 4- #02 jets) cleaning/flushing, recovering the dirty water, and is lighter than an 802- 1.5" stainless wand.
Need I say more?

I usually use a 6 jet prochem ti wand or a quad jet prochem wand. with a 2 inch hose straight to the wand.
12 flow ti 6 flow quad. the fans cut the drying time in half.
on the rare occasion I use the 2 jet thats all I use is the cuff mishmash to a 2 inch hose.
Someone said earlier I don't like getting hit with the whip in the ankle. I use a whip for tile wands. 6 feet!
I have an airpath, 3 dripods, and 2 1600 cfm small snails. 1 to 2 hour drytimes priceless.
