The vulcan HX coil was frozen it need it repair , I asked the welder to build a removable plate so next time if the coil needs repair or replace it can be done much easier

Hello gtech12v . I own a 2003 Chevy express van with a 6.0 litre V8. I purchaced the van back in 2011 with about 90,000 miles on it.gtech12v wrote:220k  miles had the engine replaced at 180k the engine has good compression and runs really nice 6.0 engine Â
Runs like new. Very strong . I recently  put an EZ TM 20/36 in it.  My question in your experience and from your knowledge how many miles can one usually get out of these GM 6.0 litre V8s before needing to be replaced? I change oil every 4000 miles with synthetic oil. Usually Mobil One.

Re: My other Truckmount project
Not to butt in here, but there is no reason that any 6.0L Vortec engine couldn't go for 200,000 with proper maintenance.
Just watch oil change intervals and keep the cooling system well serviced. From what I have seen, it is the cooling systems that kill these motors....water pumps start getting weak allowing steam pockets to form in the heads. I would replace a water pump every 80k as routine maintenance whether you think it needs it or not.
Same goes for just about any engine actually...watch those water pumps.

the van I have it has a PTO truckmount that is the reason they changed the engine on a PTO the van is running all the time while you are cleaning
that is a good truckmount you have there

Re: My other Truckmount project
Thanks guys for the heads up on the 6.0 litre engine. I didn't know about the water
pump problems. I have had to install a new radiator though. I plan on taking it to
my mechanic and have him change the plug wires and spark plugs and while he has
it have the water pump changed out in all likelihood. Don't mind doing maintenance on
this truck but anything more than changing fluids and it goes to mechanic.

It feels good to bring an old faithful machine back to life. I did the same to a couple of old Bates machines. One of which is still cleaning twenty-two years later. What kind of blower silencer does it have? What kind of engine? I may have some tips you might be able to use.

Leave it to a restoration cleaner to enjoy restoring a machine and van
Looks really nice and proves that with a nice new surface, one can end up with a like-new machine for far less coin too.
Good call on replacing the water pump, they are an easy replacement on Chevy engines and should provide a lot of benefits to that engine. I also find that on direct drive machines, a week water pump can rob you of a lot of heat to that heat exchanger....flow is very important for the machine as well as the wand.

Re: My other Truckmount project
is factory Vulcan heat exchanger blower silencer and a muffler, there is not an extra engine is a PTO so it uses the Vans engineRainbow Rider wrote:It feels good to bring an old faithful machine back to life. Re: My other Truckmount project
I used heavy duty rubber pads to raise a slide in TM. They are designed to dampen the vibration on large machines. I used them under the hose reel as well as the machine itself. That way if there is a water leak the machines frame is protected from rust. It also helps dampen the noise transfer.

RR, do you have a link that shows these rubber pads you're talking about?
