Free cash, who wants some?

Free cash, who wants some?
I don't know how many even know about it but every state has an unclaimed property section of the State Treasurer's office. Most of them have them posted on-line as well.
I checked my State this week and found that I had some money floating around in my name. Actually, turned out to $652 from an area that I haven't lived in for 9 years. It is a very simple process and certainly worth the effort.
So, if you would like some free money (actually money that was yours to begin with), check your State and see if you have some waiting.

Re: Free cash, who wants some?
Would this happen to be called or be refereed to as the "Tracer Program" Having to do with past home loans, usually Government backed loans?
25+ years ago I bought a list of names of people that had money owed to them for what I mentioned above, and it was a long list with some having thousands coming to them.......the deal was you (I) tracked them down, notified them of the refund and helped theme get it, and then would take a percentage of the money as my fee. There was a couple problems with the deal........... The biggest was it was usually just about impossible to track these people down, which I'm sure would be a lot easier now with the help of the net. The other problem was it seemed the info was very outdated, meaning those people I was able to track down had already received their refund.
Soooo, I did what any good business man would do, quit trying to find these people and just copied and sold this list of names. LOL
I did actually made some money doing that, selling the "Tracer Packages" for $40 each plus shipping cost (which cost me less than couple bucks ea to make), and the 20% or so I spent on advertizing to sell them...I sold 15-20 a week for the better part of as year or so.

After doing a search on "CA unclaimed property", I see this is different than what I mention above.
But, I did find I'm owed $29.74 from a past Medical Insurance Co. LOL

Re: Free cash, who wants some?
Not related to home loans. In my case it was from 3 different things: Adjustment on a State paycheck; a refund on a dmv fee; and some portion of a dividend related to my Grandfather who passed away 7 years ago,
I knew nothing about them until I viewed the site. My Father actually had one for over 10k a few years ago and the State Treasurer delivered that one in person.
Most of the time they are for less than $300 and often around $60, but it beats nothing. Just have to prove who you are and list where you lived for the last 10 years and they will check to see if it belongs to you.....then the check hits your door.

I went to my states treasures they use www.missingmoney.com nothing for me but I did find something for my sister and brother in law
Re: Free cash, who wants some?
My sister cracks me up. A few years back Sheriff Joe Arpaio would send letters to criminals with warrants for their arrest stating that they had won money and prizes and to come by a certain location to pick it up. When they arrived they would be arrested.
She asked me if I was sure that she didn't owe some one money and what if she went to the Treasures office they nabbed her

Re: Free cash, who wants some?
She's paranoid about something. How long did it take you to find out what the amount was? She printed the form and was to mail it out.
Re: Free cash, who wants some?
Geeezz I risk being arrested if I try to collect my money!? LOL.......I think I'll pass on the $29 I'm owed, which was already kinda the plan after trying to do it online and being rejected. It said I needed to do it my mail, so F it!!
