strange orange color appeared on spots over night
I cleaned a cream colored carpet in basement the other day. Treated urine spots as usual with SOE - peroxide and MEA and extracted all. These were old stains. Still yellow, sprayed with a mixture of odorless ammonia and 27% peroxide and let air dry. Have done this before with good results. Followed up next day with customer. He said urine spots now orange in color. Think i screwed something up. Will inspect tomorrow. Any thoughts.

Sounds like the the home owner used spotters on the the urine spots already Gerry and reacted with your tratment. I would acid rinse and try and bring the PH to neutral.
What do yo guys think?

Thanks Mo. Will order fiber/ acid rinse. Good suggestion.
Re: strange orange color appeared on spots over night
It happened to me once, in my case the home owner admitted that he used a store bought pet treatment solutions, I tried to re clean with all fiber rinse and the stains remain, he wasn't happy at all and asked me to email him a statement that I'm not taking responsibility, I was expecting a serve paper in the next few weeks but thank God nothing happened.
I explained to him that if it was from my cleaning solutions, the whole carpeted areas would have those stains all over, the fact that the stains are only on the hallway proved my point, I referred him to a local company that does room dying, I think he might've saved the carpets for him.
Keep in mind that room dying can only be done on a few fibers, including Nylon, it can't be done on polyester and olefin, and the end result would have to be darker shade than the original color.
Good luck Gerry.

Re: strange orange color appeared on spots over night
I had this happen on a nylon plush cut pile residential. The carpet turned bright orange where ever I sprayed 27% hp, must have interacted with something the customer used. I reversed most of it with a strong acid rinse- PIA. Didn't come all the way out, customer wanted to know if we would pay for replacement. We said we would settle with her, cleaned her carpets several times since she has never mentioned it again, 2 years now no word.

Re: strange orange color appeared on spots over night
Going to spray acid rinse on it this morning and extract. Will let you know.
Re: strange orange color appeared on spots over night
if its really bright orange you may have bleached it out, if its more brown then its probably just pH brown out and encap or acid rinse should fix... I prefer encap when customers have loaded the carpet up with resolve or other soaps.
I would either acid rinse it or encap with a pad and buff it out

Used an acid rinse from a local shop. No results. Ordered Chemspec Browning treatment. Here today. I will first check ph with distilled water to see were I am at. Customer ok with things because dog pissed all over for years and they treated with who knows what. Replacing soon anyways. Crazy, areas i did not treat with the ammonia/peroxide and let air dry also turned orangish. Thinking this was gonna happen anyway.

I had to use really strong acid to get it almost back. Rust Off in a spray bottle did the trick- from local hardware store, it was a last ditch effort. Nasty stuff-( miller ) gerry wrote:Used an acid rinse from a local shop. No results. Ordered Chemspec Browning treatment. Here today. I will first check ph with distilled water to see were I am at. Chemspec not here yet. Will follow up this week.

Sounds like you are on the right track. It's not every day that you get a customer willing to let you experiment....they must have realized that they created quite a mess.
