Never too late to plan vacations
Okay, I admit it, I am a logistics nut who spends a lot of time making extensive lists. I don't just plan for the day or even the month, I will plan for the year.
Today, I met with my family and decided to schedule a great vacation for my birthday in 2016....roughly one year from the time I convert to cleaning full-time. That will give me a reward for what will probably be a rocky road at times and at least secures a nice vacation before becoming a broke beach bum.
If you have seen the Harrison Ford movie "Six days seven nights" there is a cliff jump scene at Shipwreck beach....I rented the house right next to it for a week.

It will be the first vacation that I will have spent with my brothers and sisters since we were probably 12 years old in a van driving to the Ozarks. It has been a long time, and it sure sounds like fun.
That will be what I focus on during those times when things turn to s**t this year. It is paid for (minus the airfare), so there is no turning back.

Nice ! You should book the flights soon, it's cheaper when you book a year ahead.
I wish I can plan things that far, with kids school schedule that changes often, that's just close to impossible to manage.

Re: Never too late to plan vacations
I plan to book the flight as early as possible, not an option yet they tell me. I am hoping to fly into San Francisco for an over-night stay prior to that long flight.....it is just a killer flight. The last time I went, I took 3 naps, watched 3 movies, and had 2 meals.

That does sound like fun Rob. I have 3 brothers and two sisters and think it would be impossible for us to plan something like that

If you are like me, and you are as I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters, an outing like this is the only way to get everyone together.
We all live within 100 miles of each other and yet we never see each other outside of the holidays....at least not all together. In fact, until my Father developed ALZ, we didn't even know each other's phone numbers...just too busy with our own lives.
It sounds like all will be joining me except for one sister that can't handle the flight due to an anxiety condition. I am trying to convince her or talk her into a cruise for transportation, but he isn't budging on the topic. Hopefully, that changes over the year.
Re: Never too late to plan vacations
I forgot that you're in Midwest, how many hours is direct flight ? I would guesstimate it at around 10 hours ?
Why don't you stay over in LA ? we can have a cup of coffee or something ? oh Dave said he'll buy all of us ( including your family ) dinner too at Outback steak house !!

Hey Mil, Kauai is soo awsome. I went there a few years back. Make sure you hike the Nepali coast, you can do short day hikes or do a 1 day in 1 day out.
its the coast line they show in Jurassic Park when they are flying in on the helicopter, the views are just amazing

Re: Never too late to plan vacations
My brother wants to fly out of Memphis....I would rather fly out of CA, so you might see me Dp.
All that time I was stationed in Hawaii at K-bay, I never did explore the Kauai island at all. I am a hiking fanatic and love the idea of that Nepali coast.

Re: Never too late to plan vacations
It's just a little bit over 5 hours from LAX, plus unlike San Francisco most likely you can go out to dinner with short and tank tops in LA, so we'll see you next year
