Re: Does it make you nervous?
No, not anymore. But it sure did the first couple times it happened!!
I've now had it happen many times over the years, and have NEVER NOT had one shrink back up once all the moisture evaporated out of it............but it can take a couple days for that to happen.

Re: Does it make you nervous?
I am a perfectionist (in mind anyway) so I get worried and upset with every cleaning until it fully dries down.
I just returned from another 10k sqft commercial that included the big boss's office area and I was furious with how it looked when I was cleaning. It just looked streaky and lifeless.....when it was fully, dry though, it looked pretty darn good.
Never worry about how any carpet looks until it is fully dry. It can change dramatically and often does.

Re: Does it make you nervous?
Just happened to me yesterday, always lays back down.
One time it got really really loose on a saxony carpet and that made me nervous, I made a post about it here about a year ago

Re: Does it make you nervous?
Yup but it still makes me pucker. The owners asked that I go back today and put a fan on it. What ever you say mam. Just don;t leave an Angies review that I ruined your carpet. It look better this morning
Re: Does it make you nervous?
Don't worry, it always shrinks back up and lays down.....and if you tell a customer that with confidence, they won't hassle and will believe what you say.
Some carpets/backings just swell when subjected to moisture.

Re: Does it make you nervous?
Not very many though right in the 8 years in the biz its only happened maybe five or six times.
Re: Does it make you nervous?
I'm curious, how much agitation did you use?
On poorly installed carpet (no stretcher used) they naturally get rippled. I would think that heavy agitation on a poor install would just make matters worse.
Around here, I would say that at least half of all installs are being done with just knee kickers which makes the carpet wave a pretty common thing to find.
Like we discussed before, having the technical skills and tools to re-stretch a carpet can be very valuable. When they get rippled like that, it is probably from poor installation, so your sales pitch is already done.

Re: Does it make you nervous?
I agitated with the OP and improper installation is what I usually tell them. What I did notice is that this carpet had a seam right in the middle of the room. They used stanley the last time and the same thing happened.
I would imagine this empty would have been a quick and easy stretch the carpet was only 6 years old.

Re: Does it make you nervous?
I don't like getting on my knees. No cartlidge in one and I think torn cartridge on the other.
Re: Does it make you nervous?
Usually it happens on certain carpets, and by now I can kinda tell if that's going to happen by looking at the carpets ( not always ) and usually I put a lot less pre sprays and hwe it at 300 psi to eliminate moistures.

Well you sure picked the right profession then
Same boat here actually, been repaired 3 times, but that only lasts a few years.
Re: Does it make you nervous?
That's why I hate doing stairs. You must have had ACL? Did you know they can put cartilage in your knee now?
Re: Does it make you nervous?
No it doesn't make me nervous. Nine out of ten house around here do that. You gotta love the quality installs.

There's loose carpet and weak seams everywhere here. It's just part of the fun of the day.

This one looked nice tight DP no issues along the tack strips but that room was huge and I have a feeling the long seam down the middle contributed to it

You're better than I am, I can't tell anything, and have no idea what carpets are going to expand and ripple.

Sounds like a great opportunity, a lot of repairs and re-stretching then.

Re: Does it make you nervous?
Sounds like we need to hold a video clinic on how to re-stretch a room.
