Fels....What a great spotter
Remembered a video from the old board on shredding the fels and melting it in the microwave and then placing it in an empty deodorant dispenser . I tried it and it works great plus you avoid getting fels all over your hands . Keep 2 of them in my spotting bag. Hope customers don't think I'm putting deodorant on their carpets .
I may be a hack on this one but I had a trashed unit to clean with what looked like makeup everywhere . I keep some fels in the liquid form on the truck and added about 1/2 qt to my prespray (in a hydro force ) . Didn't have to post spot anything .
Might have reservations about doing this in a residential ... leaving residue behind but it didn't seem any harder to rinse than normal and no foaming .

I've still got to experiment with Fels. I can remember getting washed with it as a kid to get the poison oak off of me.

I'm using Google chrome and when I right click on it I don't see anything to copy the URL, just copy for the image . Sorry to derail the subject .
Re: Fels....What a great spotter

Re: Fels....What a great spotter
Thanks guys, so when this melts down, as in the video Larry mentioned, is it a liquid?

Where is it ?Mo wrote: My wife took a picture me clicking on the computer with one hand and clicking on the remote with the other
Re: Fels....What a great spotter
No . If you shred it and put it in the microwave it's like a paste and then can be put in an old deodorant dispenser . If you shred it ( about a cup full ) and put it in an empty gallon jug then add hot water from your TM to liquefy it . Hope this helps Littleo .Littleo wrote:Thanks guys, so when this melts down, as in the video Larry mentioned, is it a liquid?

Things I have found Fels works great on:
That black crud around heat & AC vents
Filtration stains under doors, around the walls
Many other places I can't think of right now

That's good info, works on filtration soiling. Since there isn't much that normally touches that.William Weaver wrote:Things I have found Fels works great on:

Re: Fels....What a great spotter
Thanks for the insight. I'll give it a try. Thanks again to all real cleaners
Re: Fels....What a great spotter
It's usually our last choice as spot remover because it is kinda messy to handle and it does require extra flushing to remove the residue. I like the ideas stated before of putting it in a stick deodorant container or even diluted to a liquid in a spray bottle. I will have to try those ideas.Davey Cracker wrote:That's good info, works on filtration soiling. You can buy a cheap little blender, the Ninja type, on craigslist. They're all over the place and they do a great job at turning the Fels-Naptha into powder. Sprinkle a bit into some hot water and it easily dissolves.
I use Fels + Borax + Wash Soda to clean all of my bonnets. I've still not experimented much with it on carpet.

Since I have discovered Fels, thanks to real cleaners, I have been using it at home as well. Over heard my son giving a dissertation to some of my wife's friends about its use for laundry stains. They were amazed.

Re: Fels....What a great spotter
I use Fels to make my own laundry powder. I also make it for a local no-kill animal shelter I volunteer at. Take 6 bars of Fels, 3 bars of pink Zote soap (made in Mexico), 2 boxes of washing soda, and a box of Borax. Shred the soap, mix it all together, then use a food processor to chop it to a powder in small batches. You get over 300 loads of laundry powder for about 20 bucks, when using 1 oz per load.
Re: Fels....What a great spotter
I recall seeing a receipt for a liquid soap with fels also.
Does it do a good job Eric. My wife is really picky about her laundry detergent

Re: Fels....What a great spotter
You should pretreat any spots. Using your favorite liquid detergent is great for this. Buy a bottle of shout gel that has the red brush top, and when it is empty, I use a 60/40 mix of liquid detergent and clorox 2 to refill it when it is empty.
Instead of fabric softener, use 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Your clothes will still be soft, and your towels will be VERY absorbent.
I use 1 oz of the powder I make, and 1 oz of Oxi Clean (you could substitute 1 oz of 30 vol diluted in 3 oz of water and put it in the bleach dispenser if you have one) The clothes come out great, and there is no lingering vinegar odor. I have severe allergies to some soaps and scents, and I have NO problem with the homemade stuff.
If you like "fufu scents" then add some Downy Unstoppables to the wash, otherwise the clothes will have almost NO odor.
At 1 oz, it will cost about 7 cents a load. The local shelter uses 1 oz per load, and they say they cant tell a difference between the store bought crap and what I make for them. There are some off the shelf detergents that come out to slightly less per load, but you have to use a tiny amount (1/4" in a 1.5" deep cap), and most people will not follow the directions on the bottle.
You can use as little as 1/2 oz per load if you ave a small washer, or the load is not very soiled. It doesn't foam up like most detergents, and the water will look cloudy, but it does work. The vinegar also helps keep the crud cleaned out inside the washer.
