Nylon Hose Fittings

I learned something new last night that might be of some help to people.

I was plumbing my TM's fresh water lines from the tank to the pump with braided water hose and Nylon hose fittings. I think many people have done things this way and why not, the nylon is durable, good for 150 psi and over 170 degrees. You will see these nylon fittings used to carry fuels, fertilizers, etc. which is why I used them....easy to find at tractor supply stores.

So, what's the problem?

I found out that the Nylon hose fittings are not designed to handle things like Chlorine and Fluorides.....what do you find in municipal water systems? Exactly, chlorine and fluorides so nylon is not a great choice in hose fittings.

It was news to me.....and now it might be for you.

Oh, and if you don't know what a nylon fitting looks like, think of those white or grey plastics.....probably nylon.

That's weird, I didn't know that anyone still uses plastic fittings, even though it's used only for cold / cool water but what about the ambient temperatures or if any hot water hoses nearby burst and sprays super hot water to them, it's going to melt right away, my fittings are all brass, even brass still cracks after a while.

Ambient temps shouldn't be over 170 degrees in a van...at least I would sure hope not and TNT units use the braided clear hoses for the cold side systems (water boxes, rinse tank, etc.) so I figured I would be able to run the nylon fittings.

It will not be getting that treatment now....I agree, brass is being installed.

I should be a little bit more clear, ambient temperature near the hoses, mine sits next to the pre-heated and fairly close to the motor.

Got it, yes that would not be a good place for nylon.

It is also surprising to see that many transfer pumps have nylon bodies or heads.......wonder if they fail more often as a result?
