They say that mechanics have some of the worst cars and contractors never seem to get things fixed at their own homes.

What about cleaners? How often do you clean your own home's carpet, tile, upholstery, mattresses, stone, rugs, etc.? How about stain removals? Do you add a protector to your own place? Are you careful dealing with mold?

For me, I am always testing on my own carpet, so one room is always undergoing the process of destruction and correction. As for the rest of the house, not so much.

This my personal breakdown:

Carpets and Upholstery get cleaned 2x per year.
Stain Removals as the occur, but not always.
Never add a protector nor deodorant of any kind
Not picky about type of presprays either...what-ever is on-hand is fine.
Rarely pre-vac the stairs and never post groom

As for auto interiors. maybe once per year if I am lucky. Truth is, my car is often a mess. They say that everyone has one area that they leave in a heaping mess and for me it is the work-day car....I still have my glove and cleats in the back seat from playing in a league that ended almost 2 years ago. Mad

I clean my carpet and upholstery as needed.  About once a year but I live alone.  But I do the carpet, couch and tile all on the same day.  No deo and no protector

Davey...hire someone will ya?

I have clean carpets because they are new....I'm obsessive though (OCD) I use the Vacuum daily, I have been playing with the CRB and haven't cleaned them yet as they are only three months old. When they installed it, I did Scotch-guard it right away. My furniture gets cleaned as needed..... I have done the tile and Grout but havent sealed it yet....its on my huge list of things to do. Im always testing too.

When I got the CRB my wife said...Another toy! I said vacuum the liv rm as good as you can and I'll show you! (chest pooched out!) when she vacuumed really good as to show me up....I CRB'ed and she was sold...we have a German Shepherd and I showed her some hair and sand from new AND fresh vacuumed carpet. Love my CRB!!

I still have all my carpet and T&G equipment.

Carpets are twice a year, and today is the second time this year.
Upholstery is as needed.
Auto is as needed. Fabric in the truck. Leather in the Hummer.
Linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom is two times a year with the T&G tools.

We are an interesting lot aren't we?

I was going to call for pictures, but one look at the inside of car would ruin my business for years. Shocked

The house is in far better shape except I did clean out the fridge last night and found 4 sealed tubs of butter and something that liquefied in a storage bag in the back......what can I say, being a cleaner isn't exactly a religion. Very Happy

Weren't you the one that bought 2 more TMs and was planning to restore them ? Did you get to do it ?

Yes I cleaned my carpets twice a year and we didn't even walk with our shoes, I like to lay down on the carpets after a long day.
I have a lot of t&g and only cleaned it twice so far in 3 years, sofas about once a year.
The vehicle gets detailed ( seats and carpets ) about once a year, sometimes sooner if needed or if my mom is coming, lol.

Dave, if you want let's clean your carpets with my Hoss when we meet and put that beast to the test VAC

How is your Great Dane doing? Sounds like one big dog. We have a couple little fox terrier mix. They live OUTSIDE. I've cleaned up after other peoples pets for too long. They have it made in the back yard anyway.

This thread got me going on my own place this afternoon. I haven't cleaned it in about a year. I ended up cleaning a love seat and chaise, dyed the faded fabric then cleaned and tinted the carpet in the living area which was faded pretty good. I knew it needed it but you guys got me going.

No great dane her he's a mutt from the pound. The ladies of the house decided they were going to let him on the furniture and it's been hell ever since. He sheds on the furniture and is always licking it.

Here he is cuddling up on the sofa. He loves bugger tissues and bloody tampons this dog is nasty

That IS one nasty dog. Is that a micro-fiber he's lying on? I had a customer with two big dogs that let them chew bones on their micro fiber couch. Nasty mix of saliva and chewed up bones.

If I did that DP I would be the one leaving. These women own me when it comes to this dog. You see that dark mark? That's his saliva. I put a blanket on my love seat recliner when I leave the house

Cleaning your own carpets Wtf_0011 dancing

I thought you guys might like to see what a color refreshing can do for a cheap carpet we had installed in out living room back in 2002. As you can see the room gets plenty of light. I have to add color about once a year. No big deal. I just clean it first and mix up some dye in a hydroforce and spray. The same goes for the chaise. I re-upholstered it myself several years ago. The cushion is the same pattern as the back but the color was no longer offered. Since the whole set is the same color I was forced to upholster in a creme color then add dye. I have to soak the heck out of it but it does take the dye (its not nylon). It doesn't rub off but does fade out just like the carpet. The entire set was purchased from second hand stores and even a garage sale. Originally it came from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
