To be honest, it isn't a pic I would use to try to attract new customers.

I know how it is, this is just one of those that doesn't look that impressive in the pic, but I'm sure it did in person..

Go for those night and day ones.
Go steal some from my Yelp page if you need to. lol BUT I'm only giving permission for Mo to do that, not everyone else on the net. Fly Fishing

It is a very good improvement, but I wouldn't choose those either for the website. You want stark contrasts since most customers are foolishly expecting the carpets to look like brand new after you clean them.

Ir was being sarcastic to be honest Im debating weather I should even charge the guy.

He didnt want to turn on electricity and I was just dying to take my Orbot and scrub the crap out of those patterns. I think I could have improved them more.

Actually, I think it was a very good improvment considering the patterns. If you don't charge him, you should just close the business down and take up golf.

Never sell yourself short. IF you don't take your time serious, neither will the customer and you will get shafted in the end. Traffic patterns like that don't happen overnight, he waited too long and created this problem....let him own it as well.

Yeah, I agree, I would probably give him discounts depending on his attitude, if he complains 5%, if he's cool, 10% - 15%.

I personally wouldn't discount (because you prob spent more time than normal trying to make it look good?), but rather just explain the problem with cheap crap poly carpet(?) that's had a lot of traffic, and hand him the invoice.

I'm with Davey, give him your invoice without discount and go from there. Number one rule of sales is never be afraid to ask and never be afraid to charge for your work.

He is paying not for the end result, but for your best effort to get it to look as good as possible. I didn't like a few haircuts, but that only meant no tip....still paid the going rate for the labor involved.

On my largest contract, they often turn off the air handlers at night to save money. When they do, the building ends up smelling stale when they open. I don't apologize for the odor nor do I discount for what is their fault.

This guy tied your hands with the electricity, so the results are his problem. Bill him and maybe he learns a lesson.

Although it might not apply to a pic of such a large area, placing your business card down on the floor for after pic offers a few cool benefits.

Groomer,

Nice before and after pictures. One thing sticks out however. The frayed edge. Would it have been possible to either tuck the frayed area in or trim it? Just being picky.

actually before and afters of super nasty carpet dont attract the real rich customers if that is what your after.

not what Im necessarily after but just something to think about.      Rich people with nice clean fancy homes are not online looking for the pics of amazing work we do on rat nasty homes or filthy dorms/apartments.

they want to see super clean equipment and really legit looking employees

was that commercial carpet mo? I cant tell from the pic, kinda looked like an office

I agree AC, our ads attract what what we display. If we claim to be an expert with pet urine, then that is all you are going to get.

A lot of times carpets and upholstery look much better after they completely dry, either that or he has a pretty low expectations, lol.

He likely had low expectations....leaving carpet that long without cleaning indicates a person who slowly got used to the change.

Any improvement will seem shocking to that kind of owner who had come to accept the condition for so long......kind of like adding a touch of hair dye to a man who got used to being all grey for years.

Betting he usually hires the cheapest and when he seen how bad this was he hired someone like Mo to do a better job....he is probably a customer for life.

I second what Rob says...Never give your work away....you can discount and explain BUT never give it away....you just made yourself a lower value.

AC had a great point too....Ads are the first impression of you and your company, it needs to deliver what you are attracting.

I think using a good before and after pic in conjunction with many other good pics of equipment and uniformed guys is a good idea...I really need to do it myself....just trying to get so much done in one year.(Ive come a long way)

Mo, when I seen that pic I wasn't thrilled with the contrast between the two....Ive had jobs that wouldn't make a good photo too though. I recently used a good before and after pic and was flooded with work wanting the same results and they had the same problem.....I think im going to send out an ad with the home owner throwing money at the carpet cleaner....lots of it. That way I will attract that custy! Wink

Good point.

I tucked it with an awl but did not consider it for the pic, which I should have.

Regarding before-afters, I can see the argument to support the case that trashed pics may make be a turn-off to some, but I think there is a good value to them in general assuming they are not piss filled rat holes.

No point to a B/A if there is no contrast to give potential customers an idea as to what level of improvement may be possible.
