Taking a short break from the forum Empty Taking a short break from the forum

Well, it has finally come down to this, I have to put my Father into a special needs nursing home. He was diagnosed with ALZ a few years ago and things have been a steady decline ever since. He has threatened to kill himself if we ever tried to put him in a home, but there doesn't seem to be any other alternatives.

I had been paying for a nurse to visit three times per week to help take some of the strain off of my Mother, but it appears that Dad has declined to the point that he isn't able to function at all and is not making it to the bathroom either. His recliner, bedroom floor, and even bed are all just destroyed. He even fell out of bed last night, cut himself, and left blood all over the floor.

It is a very tough day right now for everyone. I will be going over to clean the place up as best that I can to delay things and make life a little more bearable for my Mom, but I think we will have to commit him to a home come Monday. I know that he will fight it......both vocally and physically, but I don't see any options.

I might not be posting for awhile gang after this weekend.....between the flu, the storms coming, and my Dad, it is just all a little too much to balance. Rest assured, I haven't left for good, I will be back by mid-week and ready to continue the preparations for Spring.

Hope all is well you and we will talk soon.

Thanks gang, sorry that I dropped that on you. I should not have brought that up and been such a downer. I guess I just needed to shut down for a little bit.

I cleaned up the house and we are researching for the right place to move him. He was actually installing a toilet seat when I came to the house. Lucky for them I arrived as water started pouring out of the bathroom.

He broke off all the mounting bolts on both the tank and the bowl and put them into his dresser drawers. Water was everywhere and when I asked him WTF, he told me that he found some problems with the wiring and that it was common on Mercedes of that era, but it was fixed now. Shocked

My Brother is staying over there tonight to keep an eye on things while my Mother recovers from the flu.

Strange what can happen to a mind. He was a mechanic for 45 years and helped design engines for Volkswagen back in the 70's and 80's. Now, replacing a toilet seat turned into a flood and complete confusion.

Thanks.

Things always have a way of working out in life. I am staring down a blizzard that would likely trap me away from home working a double shift. At least it would have, except I have become ill with some kind of respiratory infection and will likely be staying home for a few more days.

I don't mind blizzards when you are sitting in a sauna listening to music. Cool

Sorry to hear it Rob. It was tough putting my mom in a nursing home too.

After trying to take care of her, it was just too much. I love my mom, just like you do your dad, and I know how hard it is.

Thanks man, it is tough right now, but we knew it would just be a matter of time. It is just so strange seeing him like this after being so independent all his life.
