How do "Likes" on Facebook work? I have a Facebook account, but only because I used to do some pay per click advertising on there. I really don'y know anything about Facebook pale  . Is it worthwhile setting up a page for the business? How is it different from just having a web page?

I'm not quite sure either Joe. I do know that I had a customer as on her facebook page if anyone could recommend a cleaner and one of her friends recommended me. You can also place a banner ad of your company locally.

Yeah, I've been told the same thing by a lot of customers on the Air Force Base. Several years back when I did the pay-per-click on Facebook, we go a lot of clicks but a poor return (unlike the google pay-per-click). I think that is because on the FB ads come up randomly and people are not necessarily searching for a carpet cleaner. But on Google the people are actually doing a search for your service. I could be wrong....

one way facebook works for you....

I ate at a popular local burger spot, worked out a carpet cleaning for them in the near future but the owner with over 1000 likes on his page, took a picture of my employee and I to post to his facebook page

so over 1000 people see something like "this company cleans my carpets and eats here" for example and the photo is attached

Ahh I see viral marketing.

I think that's exactly why you got a better return with  Google pay per click Joe. They were looking for a cleaner right now.

So if you use the social networking and someone finds you on google the potential client might say, " Hey that AC Power cleaner is the guy who cleans the burger joint I like".

FYI you can now leave 5 star reviews on facebook business pages... its on the right hand side and you have to scroll down about a page and then you can write and do a star rating now. This will help with facebook users and also SEO!

I'm trying to wrap my head around facebook at the moment as well. One thing I did learn, don't just start inviting random people in your town to be friends. I got flagged and almost kicked off for that. Sad
