IICRC Classes
Well, I need to earn 3 credits this year to maintain my certs. I have a 1 credit class scheduled next month, but will need to pick up a couple more either on-line or in-person. I prefer the classes if I can find one local that interests me and it looks like I am finally going to look into the Repair and Re-installation class in July.
I have wanted to attend this class for the past couple of years, but there was never one close by and I didn't want to spend the money to travel too far just for that course. This time, one is less than 5 hours away, so it finally works out.
This area has the worst installers I have ever seen and nobody does repair or re-stretches within 50 miles, so there might be an added benefit to this course, although my knees tell me that it will not be compatible. Education is always good then I can relay that information to a much younger person if I decide to add the service.
After that, maybe I head out to visit Mo this fall for the Color Repair course to round out my education. I have not seen any market for that skill around here at all and really don't expect to in the future, but it would finish out the education path towards Master Textile Cleaner.....what-ever that is worth. It might sound good on the business card or something, but means nothing to me otherwise.
Anyone else looking to add some education this year?

Re: IICRC Classes
I actually don't know when I need some credits to extend my certification, I updated my address twice and I still haven't received any mails from them. Probably time to call them and find out soon before it's too late.
Thanks for the reminder Bob.

Re: IICRC Classes
That happened to me last year Dp, I finally had to contact them to pay my cert fees in May. I would definitely call them if you use the certification as part of your advertising.
As for the CRT course in Phoenix, it seems that I either have to go there or California. No offense to California, but I don't want to be caught in their quest to leave the USA. Phoenix is warm enough for me without the wackos.....well there is Mo, so maybe one wacko.

Ha..ha..ha.... no offense taken Bob !
To be honest, the older I get, the more right I leaned, not much but definitely leaning that way and that idea to leave the US is as crazy as it gets, as much as I hate this guy in the White House now, no offense to some of you
What's really sad is the country is deeply divided politically and you almost can't have a normal conversation without offending the other person's political view.
I really need to call IICRC tomorrow.

Re: IICRC Classes
It is more than division, it is hatred. I liked it better when only 11% of the US paid any attention to politics. When the 45% of the population voted, that was it until the next election and only the hard-core folks kept following events.
I think politics is just a cycle. When you are a teen, you think liberal and want rebellion. You think that you are going to change the world while delivering pizzas.
Then, you get a good paying job with benefits and you start to own more than a pair of jeans and a guitar. Now, you start becoming conservative and want government to leave you alone as you don't need any help.
Lastly, you become elderly and struggle to get by. You start thinking in liberal terms again and feel that you deserve more benefits and to be taken care of.
It is just a cycle.

Mo, just fyi I'm going back home tomorrow.
It's surprising to see carpet cleaning companies here in Lake Havasu on Yelp there are only a few companies with very few reviews, none has more than 10 reviews total.
And newer homes with 4 br 3 ba sit on an acre of land are under 500 k, same home in so cal would've been a million if not more.
It's hot as hell here though.

Re: IICRC Classes
Color repair gets you in the door, over other CC co's. And those are usually the "money bag" kind of people. I'd do that over the repair/installation course.

Re: IICRC Classes
I tried to get into the color repair biz 7 years ago after getting some training from a retired pro in my area, but never did find any work at it. With the type of carpets being used these days I am not even sure if you could even do color repairs now.
Re: IICRC Classes
You can Bob, only nylon and wool, that eliminates a whole lot of homes though.
It is a specialty service, if you find the right customer, you can make as much as cost of replacement, since replacement = moving a bunch of furnitures = people going in and out of your home with dirty boots = headaches.

Re: IICRC Classes
That is the problem, I am seeing a steady diet of corn fibers and poly these days. I only have one customer with wool and maybe 6-7 with nylon. It just doesn't seem like a viable service around here.
