No strong Peroxide on Wool fellas...

So another one of those cleaners from the newbies board writes,

Fool: Hey Joe, I have a problem that maybe you can help me with. I have been using white knight on everything and its works great but today I treated a rug that had a light urine stain on it but when it dried it turned a really dark yellow. Any ideas on what I can do to reverse the effects from the whute knight? Thanks for any help you can suggest.

Joe: Had the spots been worked before? You might have uncovered their damage.
Try applying WN to an unaffected area and see if you get the same reaction.

Fool: Any spots that we tried it on have gotten darker, it is a wool rug, but when we scrub the spot with a wet rag it is very soapy so we are pretty sure they have used something on the carpet and that this is some kind of chemical reaction but I'm hoping there is something we can still do to make it look better.

Joe: OMG sorry man, never use strong peroxide on wool. nothing higher than about 3%.
Nothing alkaline either like ‘soap’ max pH 10.0

Geez, don't they teach you guys anything at all the carpet cleaner tech courses? This is basic stuff.

Well, maybe? lol he will learn from his mistake!......but some are such D-Trucks, they don't!  

Oops! maybe he should've got stain magic for wool and read the direction!

In 12 years, I have never seen any product that didn't recommend the user to "Always test" in a hidden place before moving on to center stage. Any cleaner past their first day should always remember that adage...especially on a rug!

I feel for the guy a little, sounds like he wants to do a good job, but ran into an area where he lacked the experience or education to be successful. If he chooses to learn from this event, he will recover...we have all made some dumb mistakes.

At least it was on a rug instead of the middle of some grande entry at the local millionaire's mansion.

Well one good thing is he can always blame the urine.

I guess that's the hole ur-ine now...damn that was corny.

Ooooooops! Well at least he was able to learn and hopefully he won't do it again.
