Stain on wool rug

I cleaned a wool rug that had a dog feces spot on it and I couldn't get it to budge couldn't even lighten it up. I pre sprayed with procyon, tried my deep green spotter, Procyon spotter rtu. I rinsed really good, tried it with the orbot. I was going to try fels but didnt think it would work on this. I think ill try that tomorrow. Any suggestions?

I'm waiting on this answer myself. Had a wool rug once that looked like it had been used as a place mat in a restaurant. None of the spots came out. I even used a reducer. Good luck

You need to try Rug Restorer from Pro's Choice...I had a situation on a similar drury rug. Test color fast and hand scrub then extract. Looks like its not going to be easy after all its been through Mo. Dry fast with a fan and possibly in the sun.

I would blot with that solution and a white towel to see if any stain is releasing.

I recall using the vac hose to pull my solution into the stain from the opposite side then saturating the whole rug...its woven tight so its hard to get solution into the soiled area. let it dwell and dwell....I think it even mentions to make a bath for the rug....but I suspect this is for urine issues. I used a nylon bristle brush to tap it into the stain as well when brushing lightly....I got roughly 85% out and couldnt use the sun which I'm BIG on. May be better methods out there but this was my recent fix.

I do have some relief but a little weary about using it on wool afraid I might remove too much of the dyes Rainbow.

Yeah Devon I dried it on the sun hoping it would lighten up but no go. But you're right it is tightly woven. What I did was put my water underneath the rug and soaked it from the top to flush. I also used a clear upholstery tool and I didn't see any color coming out of the stain.

I think I might call her to see if I can get kamikaze in this beatch

Rug restorer is great, I've used it many times as directed and it worked great every time removing odor and stains on wool rugs.
The only problem is the amount of time it takes to do the process correctly. You have to charge $5-7 s.f. to even make it worth your time.......and that would be if it was a larger rug, like 60-80 s.f.+. On a smaller rug it would have to be a flat rate of a couple hundred bucks at least.

True Davey! Thats why I kind of use my method of not doing the bath....it doesnt look like it needs it either....just clean the rug but work the stains.

I just did one like that last weekend.

The stains weren't dog feces, but it was from a cat that was missing half of its leg and was leaving blood and pus all over it. The owners really wanted to keep that rug for sentimental reasons (wedding gift), so I gave it try.

Like you, nothing topical worked...didn't even fade the damage at all. I had to soak it for a full day in Rug Restorer to get the stains out.

That stuff works pretty well, but it isn't cheap and it takes 12-24 hours of soaking for it to work. You would lose your shirt on the job without charging a high premium.....I know, because I didn't and I lost on the deal.

I've heard of rug restorer; but Never heard of anyone using it OR success.
Man, its been like 2-3 yeas since I've dome a wool rug. 15-18 years ago I had 2 maybe 3 customers with wall to wall wool.

Or do you stain magic? I've never used that one(for wool).

Stain Magic for wool is a pretty good product, but I don't think it would work on this one.

I think you need to set up a flushing tray. Flushing water on the backside with a spotting claw or even the small water claw on the other side. Add a little wool-safe detergent in the rinse and flush away.

Wool wicks naturally, so the secret will be to get the water flowing from the base of the fibers out the tips. It might take awhile, but at this point, you have tried almost everything.

Wait a tick.....I thought you already tried hydrogen peroxide, but after re-reading your post, you haven't tried that yet.

Try the peroxide, it might bleach it out enough to hide it on that light colored rug.

No I haven't Rob. But I might especially cause the stain is on he white part of the rug. Ill do a little test on a small area

I've used stain magic and peroxide for vomit and urine, good results. A local CC says that in poo, you can be dealing with dyes(depending on the kind of dog food eaten). Same with vomit.
- I'd try peroxide. Go low vol first, to gauge did color change. Try a spot in a white area first.
-did you ask the value of the rug?
And did you ask her to what extent of risk she would accept in attempt ing to get those stains out. In other words; your risk.

The value of the rug is important, especially if you're going to be using peroxide or stain magic on it............both are a big no no on wool.

You could try SM for Wool, that would be safe..........but again I think your best bet would be rug restorer.

Peroxide is okay on wool if treated with some caution, did it for decades.

Actually, I think Stain Magic for wool is mostly peroxide.

I got the go ahead to ruin her rug

If you notice there are three spots. The bigger one to the left right below the center design I left alone didnt treat it that one, the second one to the right of that I scrubbed in a Strong Dry spotter I picked up at ICE a couple of years ago. The group of 4 small spots to the right I treated with a 30 volume bottle that was so weak It didnt turn my fingers white.

Getting better....find a little stronger peroxide and I think you will be there.

This looks like one of those double sided rugs, is it?......or does it have a backing, and just one sided?

That is a good question, what does the backing look like?

On the one that I had lately, it actually used a denim back....never seen that before and it made things complicated when it came to drying the different materials. It also was a pain to keep the cotton denim from wicking into the wool.

Strange rug, but it was hand made by the couple's Grandmother so what are you going to do?

Its a two sided rug Dave. The stain did bleed through but doesn't look as bad as the side im working on.

Yeah that peroxide did do the trick didn't it? Matt and Rob should a blot and brush in a 50/50 full strength 30 volume HP and rinse after a few minutes?

Work it in with one of those little shark tools so that you can get all sides of the fibers.....other than that, patience is the key. Go slow with the peroxide and let it do the work for you....a simple plant sprayer works well here.

It's really too bad you don't have some rug restorer, Mo.
Especially sense it seems like the stain as opposed to odor is the problem here. With it you could just saturate those stained areas, without having to go threw the time and hassle of doing the bath needed on a urine soaked wool rug. And I have a feeling it would remove the stains, without any of the hassle, concern and caution you're going threw.
