Cheap and Insulting

I can appreciate shopping for a deal on equipment, I certainly do it myself, but I am getting a constant flow of insults this week.

I listed some equipment for sale (mostly damage restoration stuff like Dehus and Air Scrubbers) and I have had several companies drive as far away as 2 hours just to make insulting offers. One company wanted my whole inventory of filters for the Air Scrubbers as I have over $4000 in inventory (factory sealed), but told me they would only give me $500 for the lot due to them being a few years old. Sealed packaging...no expiration dates on filters gang.

It just drives me crazy. I think I might list them on Craigslist in Houston or Florida and let one of those companies pay to ship the stuff. The local companies just seem to be vampires.

It is so frustrating to have easily over $20,000 in damage restoration equipment, but not able to even get offers at 20 cents on the dollar for mostly new items. It is really that bad...a brand new air scrubber selling at $1200 plus shipping new is drawing offers of $200.

We have a bad industry...no honor in the practitioners.

Unfortunately, used stuff gets a low ball offer *alot* of the time.
I just got a kicker motor for $200, cuz it ran rough.

I agree, used in this industry normally means beat to hell, but new in sealed packaging is .... well, new and in sealed packaging. I would have settled for 1/2 price and helped to load it up, but not for pennies.

We all know that some times you get lucky and manage to get something for near nothing, but to just assume and insist on it seems like a bad practice.

Like you said, I hope it was worth the drive to meet me...I should give them an autograph and a selfie next time.

That’s the problem with Craigslist, I had someone offered $ 12,000 for my 2010 ford van with Prochem everest in it, I listed it at $ 24,000.
I asked the guy, why didn’t you ask me if I’m willing to donate it to you ?

I understand tire kickers and they don't offend me at all as they are least honest about their finances. I just didn't care for a large company to call me up, ask for a ton of details, understand the price and then drive 2 hours to tell me that he will only give me 20% of the asking price.....especially after agreeing that they were as described on the phone and in the pictures.

He wasted his time AND mine. I guess I am still a little irritated by it.
