Upholstery Chems you had to have
I just read Ryan's post about all the chems you were told you had to have to clean certain fabrics in the first year thread and was wondering what you guys have found necessary and what was just useless. Do you really need all those different chems or are just a couple is all that is needed? I'm trying to go to upholstery class next month and just looking for some good advice.

Re: Upholstery Chems you had to have
Unless your doing fine fabrics, which in our town Eric are few and far between, I have found that your regular carpet cleaning PS cut to about 2 oz/gal works fine. The only thing to consider is soil load, if you run into that really bad one increase the rate and maybe add a solvent to help break things up, agitation is good also.
The only thing to consider is most uph PS don't have a spread/sticker, which makes the PS more "wet" or spread across the fiber easier. That is way I say cut the rate a little, due to the small and thin fabric composition.
The other chem to consider with fine fabrics is encap. If you have concern with a higher moisture cleaning, just step down and go to low moisture encap cleaning.
The class is very informative and I would say your take away will be from construction and fabric ID. Which will help you in how you plan to clean.
But honestly Eric, you can drop a bomb on most the stuff we clean in our town. Most of the time it needs it. Lol

That's a great advice, however I would stay away from white silk in your first few years of cleaning, heck I still run away from them a LOT of times after 11+ years cleaning, the most dangerous fabrics are flower pattern natural fibers, if you're not careful with your cleaning chemicals and water temperature, they will bleed on you, if you're not sure it's better to consult an experienced local colleague, I still do, I'm lucky enough to have a local colleague that has been cleaning for 40 years, I always dump my white silk jobs and flower pattern natural fibers jobs to him cause I'm just not interested in dealing with them, I just don't see any challenges in upholstery cleaning.

Oxy-buff....problem solved.
Re: Upholstery Chems you had to have
Just posted this In "I changed". Great for upholstery! Green, non toxic, smells unbelievable, works great, inexpensive, readily available, no shipping costs when bought at local grocery store! Can be charged with hp. No downside! Need to boost it with some citrus for Micro fiber. Works best on natural fibers but also good on slightly soiled synthetics.

Very Interesting but the smell of lavender kills me. Thanks for the input.

This stuff will not. I do not like the smell of lavender all that much either. The way they use it in this product does not bother me at all. Every customer so far has commented on it in a positive way.
Re: Upholstery Chems you had to have
Maybe I'll have to give it a try then.
