this had to be over 10+ years ago a customer of mine worked for them so it did not cost me a thing or did they take any of my % of sales

The deal was I had to do a 50% offer so I did two rooms $ 100 dollars value for $50 dollars.

It had all the fine print on the offer Duel purpose and or Lr Dr are two rooms sq limitations stairs are extra no week end or holiday open areas only no furniture moving. Most of all NO-INCOME properties no owner rentals or commercial.

I got stuck with this PIG for a year

First off anyone who called thought it was going to be 50% off the $50 dollars so then I had that fight. ( I brought with we me on every job the rules and fine print on a laminated sheet )

The for the 50 bucks they wanted all their stuff moved. ( read the rules )

Folks would move everything into the middle of the room then they would you know help moving it back.

I ran into the absolute worst class of customers. Most demanding pricks and A$$ holes I found out pretty fast why no carpet cleaner ever went another year with this.

Of course the local slum lords tried to use this not tell you it was a rental then finding out I was going to charge them full rates for their cleaning.

I had people threaten to sue me over this. No one did though many calls were placed to entertainment book while I was there to go over the rules.

They were pretty good about it stating exactly what I was trying to explain to the cheap a$$ jerks.

Then off the phone with EB they would be even more pissed off trying to tell me what it should be.

A freaking nightmare

yes I did get a few good customers from it. But not many.

I never up sold a A B or C package or tried to get more money for bringing out the RX20 or prescrubs. I still believed that my quality cleaning was going to score more work. Then when they wanted more rooms done they wanted them done at 50% off.

I could not win.

Like the beer guys say, I don't discount my beer, never. Something like that. Lol

Yup, you advertize cheap A$$ prices, you attract the cheap A$$ people.
And these are usually the same people who are the biggest PITA's, and will waste 30 min of your time asking questions on the phone, if you let them.

I'm actually targeting, and looking for the customers who are just the opposite.
If I get a cheap skate that calls me, I just let my prices scare them off.

That's right, I do the same with my price, here's an example :
I have a very small 1 bedroom apartment, it's very small, the bedroom is just around the bed, probably 20 sq ft, the living room is like 100 sq ft, no scratch that, may be like 80 sq ft, it's not too bad, I just haven't had it cleaned in 5 years, WHAT ?!?! LOL, sounds familiar ?
Ummm our minimum charge should cover that, it's $ 150, oh ok, I'll call you back, sure you will ;-)

I dont think enough carpet cleaners push maintenance plans, you might be surprised how many customers will go for it

other industries that are always residential maintenance plan based

landscaping, window washing, maid service, HVAC, gutter cleaners, etc etc

carpet cleaning fits right in with these, and all of them sell maintenance.

so why offer coupons that are based on a 1 time service?>

trying to get customers to get on a maintenance let alone a contract one is like getting them to the dentist every 6 months right

Hey we all make mistakes at that time I was still new to marketing I thought it was at least better than the free room. Except I had no control over who or whom bought the EB.

I just knew once those people experienced a great cleaning and service they would buy more

Yes I know all BB cleaners only clean clean carpet for the rich and get a buck a square ft or more.

LOL Terry, I don't clean ONLY for the rich, Davey does
I still clean nasties, however it only happens for certain customers that knows what to expect, that's when the big guns come out so that I still make decent $$ without sacrificing quality :-)
