Propane tanks

Propane tanks
For those cleaning with propane, what is your tank set-up? Manchester belly tanks....Tall RV tanks....etc?
I know that Les Judson has been working with manchester to make a larger belly tank that is DOT rated, but I don't know if that has happened yet. I am going to propane heat soon and I am a little worried about the access to propane since I mainly work evenings on 6-8 hour jobs. So far, I can only find 2 locations that will fill a belly tank and they are a long distance apart of each other and the 30-40 lb exhange tanks found at gas stations wouldn't last all that long feeding a #4 LG over 8 hours.
What are the preferred set-ups out there?

Re: Propane tanks
This is the tank I've got for my Little Giant 3HT
It is listed as a 10 gallon or 40lb tank, but only holds 7.5 gallons when full. I haven't checked my consumption since I cleaned the jets in the heater so I can't give you a good figure yet. Maybe Ryan can give you a good consumption figure and how often he refills. Also your 4HT has 50% more output than a 3HT and I don't know if that's 50% more fuel burn or not. I would look into a dual tank setup so you don't leave yourself in a bind if you can't get to a filling station.

Re: Propane tanks
We ordered a 50gal for the box truck, it should be arriving here in about 1 week. Its a long skinny design to give more ground clearance.
Here the thing about propane tanks, at a certain point they hardly go up in price. It was like another $40 to go from a 30gal up to a 50gal
I went to an RV equipment and repair shop, they ordered it from somewhere on the east coast.
This tank is going to run the new tnt and the #4 LG, and feed the #3 LG when we need it to for dual wanding
the consumption of the #4 I think was tested at about .5 gal/ per hour of actual trigger time.

Re: Propane tanks
oh ya, I would have it set up so you can keep an emergency bbq tank on board and hook that up if you find yourself running out on the large tank
Re: Propane tanks
I've always had a 10 gal. belly tank on my van, and that my preference as I don't normally like carrying tanks in my van......
But I do sometimes throw in a 5 gal BBQ tank if my belly tank is low and I'm afraid I might run out.....I put a fitting on to connect a hose to my belly tank that enables me to connect to a BBQ tank and feed from that if I need to.
