engine rpm's- revisited
Several month ago I was having a problem with my everest not Revving up promptly, and not idling down all the way. Its been a problem off and on. Last week I had 2 jobs where I couldn't get it to idle down from the 1 wand setting(about 2200 rpms). So I bit the bullet and drove very to Jonson in Seattle today, 2.5hr each way. There is a rpm control module on top of the engine that can get stuck to different degrees. Dirt gets in there and , well , mine was stuck. Took 2.5 hrs oflabor to clean it up. Now it reacts faster when changing engine speed up/down. Whew. Those 2 jobs I had to try to cool it down and turn off at a high rpm and I was worried of how it might damage some of the tm components.
I was lucky to day cuz JD has 3 service techs at the south location. Today one was on vacation and another called in sick. I show up at 10:45 for my11 am appt. Later I find out there where 2 others there to have work done on theirTMs. They got there about 10 min after me. So when I left there about 1:30ish, they had been waiting the whole time I was having my work done. IF I had been 10-12 min late, my whole day would have been wasted. I couldn't wait all day there to have them get time late afternoon. Had to get home, my expecting daughter and husband where flying out to go back home to Vegas. Couldn't miss that

Hmmm, is it EFI ? I thought that year is carburetor models only ?
If that control module is like a triangle, I've taken that apart before and it definitely doesn't take 2.5 hours to clean that.

Its an EFI. The module is square.
All I know is it Rev's up and down. Didn't stick.

Re: engine rpm's- revisited
Since the machine doesn't idle down I would guess its not a blocked fuel injector it's probably your your rev modulator

Re: engine rpm's- revisited
Sounds like the zenith control module is the issue. Look at the rpm control on the engine the one that they cleaned the other day see if you can clean it again it may be going bad.

Ace,
It is working now. He said it can get stuck cuz of dirt. The idle screw inside the troddle body is what was stuck, the module which sit on top of the engine.
As I understand it,turn the rpm switch and the screw inside adjust the engine rpms up or down. That screw was sticking.

Re: engine rpm's- revisited
Huh, interesting, cause mine revs up and down sometimes too and I cleaned the zenith control module and the fuel injector underneath that a while back, it helps for a while and it starts doing that again sometimes now.
I'm not aware about the idle screws inside the throttle body, I wonder where is that at ? Behind the rpm control switch ?

On top of the engine is a some what square module. Its in there. I didn't see it, but its in there. You have to drill out some rivits to open it up, bla, bla, bla, the service tech a said over the phone. I said stop; can you get to it tomorrow? I'm on my way over.dp1 wrote:Huh, interesting, cause mine revs up and down sometimes too and I cleaned the zenith control module and the fuel injector underneath that a while back, it helps for a while and it starts doing that again sometimes now.
