Tile and Grout Question Empty Tile and Grout Question

Post by Devon07 Sun Aug 30, 2015 7:22 am

I have a T/G job and the grout is just black as black can be....it should be a tan.....this will make a great video if it cleans up like Im hoping...I asked if they did anything to it other than cleaning it...they said no....then the guy calls me and says he was cleaning out under his sink and realized he did in fact use a wax on the tile (he found a bottle).....it's a store bought Mop n Glo type wax....so, Im thinking the wax will complicate the cleaning.

Will the 2790 or even the Procyon break through the wax? Im sure its really old wax being he couldnt remember even doing it.....not sure why someone would wax it anyway!

What do you think?

Looks like your going to have to do some testing to see what gets it off.  Ill would try and get off with your tile cleaners and a stiff ass brush on a rotary and then a spinner. Worst case scenario a nasty stripper to remove,

DANGER.....DANGER.....DANGER Will Robinson.

That mop and glo just made the job an ugly one. I did one like that in March where you could scrape the wax off with your fingernail it was so thick. I had to break out the 175 and strip that wax off completely...it sucked.

Now, if they only did it once, it might not be so bad as the layer would be small, but I would still expect to have to strip that floor first.

I do know ammonia strips wax and it does it easily....im curious if I need to go down that road or not...I was hoping the products weve been talking about lately could do it....Procyon and 2790

They very well might, the procyon is an acid and the 2790 seems to have a lot of horsepower.

I just don't have any experience to back it up scratch

As an option, "Simple Green" will also strip wax pretty well without a harsh odor.

Sounds like you guys got it under control.

But yea, the real key is to test, test, test, find out what it's going to take to get that floor clean before giving price. If we don't we're walking into the unknown, and how can you possibly price that?

Sounds like it could be a messy one.

Use floor stripper, mix it strong and let it dwell for 5 - 10 minutes, that should take care of it.

I don't know if that is the best stripper money can buy or not, but they sure are throwing enough bills on the stage to find out.

Interesting side bar, the "average" stripper in America makes $150,000 per year. That is the average!!

I'm marrying a stripper and retiring.

I'm okay with the stripper wife "side jobbin" while I lounge at home by the pool....my wife did it for free and she wasn't even a stripper. Heck, I would even call Uber for her myself for 150k per year.
