Great Video, Ryan!
You do it much different than I do, but don't we all.
Different is good, I learned a couple things.
Thank you!

Thanks Davey, if you get some time shot one, I'd love to see it done differently. I'm sure like you I could learn more.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe that video has won several months back. That was in my three months in a row 3 video each month RC challenge I believe.

That's exactly what i do "break it in", which is one thing I do differently.Joe Bristor wrote:Another good video there Ryan.
Lotsa good details. I didn't know the trick about switching the razor.
Good work.
I used to get on some concrete and do the twist on the the donor piece to 'break it in.'
It really helps it blend in much better on not so new/worn carpet, like Ryan's in the video.
Once the donner piece has been cut and I'm happy with the fit, I will take it outside to put 'some wear on it', by turning it fiber side down on concrete or asphalt and rubbing it to scuff up and bloom the fibers. Which does usually get it dirty as hell, but no prob if you're cleaning the carpet. It works really well, can work too well (depending on how ruff the surface is) if you're not careful. So best to do a little at a time, especially if it's real ruff ground so you don't overdue it, esp. when you're doing it the first few times until you get a feel for how fast it can work.
It won't give you a perfect match to moderate to severely worn carpet but will take off that new carpet sheen and beets the heck out of that new piece sticking out like a sore thumb.
Hey can I get some "reputation" over here! Maybe this tip will be positive rep. worthy?

Sure the carpet looks great, but can you make a scarf?
Seriously, the carpet repair looks great. I found that I didn't have the patience for many repairs, so I tip my hat to ya.

Re: Loop pile repair
Damn, Ryan nice work!! :king:
I consider myself pretty good at repair work, but Berber or looped pile carpet repairs still intimidate me.
Not to mention having to line up a pattern as well!.....I hope you got paid well, because you deserve it!

Re: Loop pile repair
If you look close I'm off by about a half inch to the right and south. I should have taken a few more minutes to be sure of my pattern match.
When I do bonded inserts, like carpet cleaning I try to set a reasonable level of expectation. This one I made sure to mention that pattern match is extremely difficult because the pattern varies across the whole lot of goods. I mention that the goal is to not be noticeable from a standing position.
Berbers are not as hard as they seem. I actually think they are easier than cut pile.
One repair I have not done is CGD.
