Home brew APO?
There was a discussion a while back on a pump that someone was using for an APO. I can't seem to find it in the search. Anyone have any experience with this. Cause I'm not going to pay a grand for one.
Re: Home brew APO?
APO s are expensive because on powerful machine they would have to fight the vacuum your running... that is why they need check valves etc
otherwise an $80 sump pump that comes with a float switch from home depot would do it.
It may have been me that said a sump pump will do it, but I was wrong in regards to larger machines.
Our new TNT is on the way being built, and it doesnt come with an APO would have been another 3k or so.
for 3k and with 150gal recovery well just be keeping a small fast sump pump close by, or installing it and then keeping the valve closed until we fill the tank.... when the tank gets close to full the shut off switch will trip and then well have to just take a coffee break for a couple min while it pumps.
but I think with a good size recovery you can get a lot done before it needs draining as long as you drain it everyday after work.

Re: Home brew APO?
Yeah I got 75 gallon recovery. But it fills fast with the way I got my set up. I run high flow and we usually fill up every 1500_2000 sqft. Which is a huge hassle when your doing 10k sqft commercial.

Re: Home brew APO?
I think it might have been on the old board. It was like a $200 pump someone was using with great success.
Re: Home brew APO?
$149 for a PO mans pump out.

Would have to shut down to pump out.

Jabsco Water Puppy...stainless model is what I have. My Butler APO died and when I opened it up...there was the $125 Jabsco pump staring at me. I think that APO sells for close to a grand as an option on new vans...not sure why? Jabsco Water Puppy and a marine toggle switch and breaker is all that it seems to be. Buy it all on ebay for less than $200 minus the float.
Re: Home brew APO?
This is the one I'm been using for over five years with out a problem it cost you about $180 it will work with a blower up to 47 with no problem.
Were can I get one??
you can get it here http://store.waterpumpsupply.com/runo12vodcbi7.html

Re: Home brew APO?
Pump out system for less than $200. Float switch was the most expensive part, about $90 direct from manufacturer. Pump from Harbor freight, hardware from home depot. Notice brass check valve. Ran white pvc pipe to front of machine. hooked led lit switch to battery with fuse. works great, inexpensive readily available parts. Can switch pump out for a new one in minutes. Questions?

Re: Home brew APO?
Looks good. Any prefilter on that badboy? Can it run while the machine is running?
Re: Home brew APO?
Yes it runs no problem with the machine on, Filtering the water with a filter like Joes or one of the popular pool filters is essential. Lint will f it up. I use knee highs in the filter basket, no probs. I did not install a shut off valve on the pvc where it exits the machine. If you forget to open it or turn off the pump it will burn it out. I'd rather have water shooting across the driveway then burn out the pump. My friend learned this the hard way.

Thinking about buying this one. A little pricy but it's a diaphragm pump and can pull up to ten feet of water lift and 8 gallons per minute. So it wont need to run for long

Re: Home brew APO?
wow this is cool, Im going to use one of these soon.
I didnt realize all you need is a regular check valve from home depot

Re: Home brew APO?
So I built eldiablos APO using the harbour fright pump. Gotta say I pretty impressed. Don't know how long it will hold up but for$40 to replace that I can buy 50 of them before I would pay for the big name ones.
One thing to mention it does need to be run the first time with the machine off to prime the pump. Otherwise it will not want to start sucking. But once you got it going it runs fine. I hooked it up to the machine shut off float so the added weight of the almost full tank will help it do its job. I'll give updated info as soon as it breaks.
Thanks el diablo

Re: Home brew APO?
Glad I could help, the harbor freight pump was somebody else's Idea. Either from this board or the previous.
