reuilt pump

For those that have had a pump rebuilt, how much did it cost.

I've rebuilt my pumps many times, but I do it myself so it's only the cost of parts........no idea on labor cost, but I'd guess 1-3 hrs (depending on what type of "rebuild" @ $85 an hr).

Which pump do you have?

My last rebuild was on a Cat 435, which is an odd duck, it cost me almost as much as a new pump. On a more common pump, you should be able to get it done for about 1/2 of new or maybe less depending upon condition.

That is true, but it takes time and not everybody has the aptitude or the time to get it right. You really should have a second pump on-hand, that way you can take the time to rebuild it correctly without being pressured to get back in the game.

When I rebuilt mine, I expected the normal wear and ordered parts accordingly. Once I opened it, I found a cracked piston and several other little surprises. I couldn't afford to be out of action waiting for parts, so I had the gurus at Dultmeier rebuild it and was back in action the next morning.

If you can find one cheap, buy a spare pump and rebuild that one so you always have a working spare and you get to learn how to do it for future reference.

It isn't always about if you can do something, sometimes it is about how long it will take. Anyone can change a water pump on their car in a day (and several trips to the parts store), but a trained mechanic has it done in an hour and you can get on with your life. Sometimes, it is worth spending the money to save you the time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. General T991. $300 brand new. Lasts forever. Same specs or better as most of the Cat pumps. Don't rebuild it. Replace it. If one starts giving me any trouble I got an extra sitting on the shelf, but I usually wont have any trouble. No seals going out. Not a thing for at least 2000 hours. Just oil changes. Simplify your life.

ya but as you do more and more of these things then you yourself can have it done in an hr

It takes a while but over time you collect more and more tools and easier ways of getting it done

id be broke if i payed a mechanic to fix all the things I have with engines

Does the General T991 fit right in place of let's say a Cat 3cp? Or do you have To make modifications?

Is it a cat pump or what 3cp 5cp high low seal kit around $120 check valves around $100 per kit for a 3cp add 75 for 5cp  but check valves most times don't need replacing just replaced a set that had over 5000 hr and had never been opened.
Most places charge around 2.5 hr labor

I'm not sure about the cat pumps. I have replaced a hypro and a hyracell pump before. I had to make a new mounting plate. Wasn't hard to do tho.

my 5cp was $225 in parts for check valves and seals.....of course the head was bad, so it has thrown me into a full tizy...
