Rabbit urine.
I cleaned an area rug yesterday with rabbit's pee and after hitting the specific areas about 20 times, re treating it a few times with almost full strength soo, the smell remains, anyone have any experience with this type of odor ?

Re: Rabbit urine.
I had a rug that had urine from a dog that was taking some kind of medicine that SOO boosted with peroxide would not touch. I tried glycolic acid to treat the urine salts but with little success (and I really soaked it). The rug I had was olefin and on a suggestion from a rug shop they told me to pressure wash it with a good degreaser and then deoderize. I pressure washed it with Slop n Gobble and it still had some odor but not after I hit it with Odorcide. Odorcide is what finally did the trick for me.

That rug is a salvage job. I would make a wash pit using a tarp and pvc soak it that S/0/0 or better yet a 75/25 dilution of white vinegar and water and let it sit in that for 8 hours and charge 4.00 per square foot. If that doesn't knock it out through it away you dirty wabbit
Re: Rabbit urine.
Wash pit with ozone water is what the "big boys" are doing for the celebrities's homes.
Soaking it with a continuous rinse action is what will get the job done without risking damage.

Re: Rabbit urine.
Ive used PC "Rug Restor" on pee soaked wool rugs many times with 100% success.....just have to let it soak 12 hrs min.
But you can't charge enough for it, it's a time consuming process, and I've charged $4-6 a sq ft and don't feel like it was enough most times.

Thanks for the responses gangs, this one is polyester / polypropelene, so I'm sure soaking it for long period of time shouldn't be a problem but out of curiosity if it's wool, soaking it for 12 hours is not going to pull the dye out Dave ?

That should be a serious concern on handmade wool rugs because most are bleeders. But I haven't had any problem with machine made wool or man made fiber rugs.
Most of the time it's not worth the cost for doing this type of treatment on inexpensive poly type rugs, it's cheaper to just replace them.
And of course I'm again referring to using "Rug Restore" when talking about this. It's what I've used with success, but I can't speak for other products when pit soaking.
