Re: Do you Vacuum?
Did you put two together Tom? I wonder what the brush speed are on those. Sounds like a jet engine.
I just can't see myself running the TM to vac

Re: Do you Vacuum?
It actually works better with two vs one. One on a TM spins way to fast but with two it does really well, and you can really cover some carpet. I don't prevac all my jobs.
I have played around with several ways, the one I like the most is, I prespray the carpet, then I hook a cheap wal mart Bissel and use it to pre scrub my pre spray into the carpet, the crap I get out of the carpet is crazy, it is amazing how much I can get out of the carpet, because it is pre sprayed I don't need the dust downer, I know what you are thinking but it works amazingly well, so well I hardly ever use my Roto Vac. Being hooked to tm it sucks every thing up pennys bobby pins, and the suck is so good it even pulls the crap that gets stuck down by the baseboards.
I have HX so my water is good n hot ready to go when I'm done. It is kinda of a pain in the butt but it is the fastest I have come up with on really trashed carpets, and they wand out really really good.

Sounds good in theory, but you're not removing any of the dry soil that way.........unless you vac'ed before you pre-sprayed? Sounds like a great way to made some mud tho.

Re: Do you Vacuum?
You don't see it, just create it by not removing that couple pounds of silt before you get the carpet wet.
You anti vac guys are too much too handle. lol

Re: Do you Vacuum?
I've pulled up the carpet in the entryways and found a layer of super fine dust that's penetrated completely through the carpet. If you get that wet it's going to turn to mud and wick. This thread has mentioned vacuums. I really prefer the Oreck as it's not only light and powerful but can also be used on stairs.

Very common to see that in high traffic areas, especially when the carpet isn't being vacuumed often enough..

Re: Do you Vacuum?
Forget the dust or the fine silt or any of that other stuff. It is those homes with 50 lbs of carpet powder in those backings.
You don't vacuum that stuff up, gawd help you when you start throwing water around.
Now we say it, Davey.

I had my share of those, before I started vacuuming...........The carpet dries with that white powdery haze, and the customer then calls you because it's of course your fault.

Re: Do you Vacuum?
The only good ones are the baking soda-based. The rest use talc.....a rock, not water soluble unless you can wait 1,000 years for erosion to take place.
If they have pets, you can bet there is carpet powder in those backings.

Since most don't, you end up being the hero, all for just doing the job right, and what the other guys should have done.............that's why we charge more right?...we do what others don't.
Love it, Mo
It's the same thing every time this thread comes up....those who do it, those who never will, it seems?

Re: Do you Vacuum?
I vac in my customers homes, they really like the idea behind the turbo cat vac as it removes all air to out side, not just blowing it back indoors. There is a ton of pollen here in Redding, so much at the right time of year it turns our cars yellow in dust, so pulling all the air back outside really helps.
My prescrubber/vac combo is for rentals it is just something I came up with and have got used to doing, it saves me a ton of time not having to ruin a vac on the dump they left for me....and I do charge extra if I have to do it.
I have replaced more GOOD vacs because the apartment stuff kills them...either from junk or just the odor the seems to fill them.

Re: Do you Vacuum?
Good point about exhausting to the outside Tom. Even true hepa vac with multiple filter releases some micro dust particles back into the air.
I knew a guy that used the Turbo Cat with TM and sold it as an additional deep vacuuming service. He charged an extra 10.00 per room

Its one of those things carpet cleaners get real touchy about lol
which is why I usually say just do what works best for your business. I tested my own carpets time after time going months and months without vacuuming and having 2 dogs.
If there is a lot of pet hair from long haired animals then definitely I will vac if they have not already.
With the soil we have here, being not in a dustier dry climate and using 10 flow or higher I have found that it doesnt matter.. carpet just isnt that thick so it flushes all the way through the backing.
some really thick super plush carpets I will vac
have tested this with loose carpet in my shop many times also without vacing, and after getting flushed with 10 flow theres nothing in the carpet/backing etc. '
and yes I was a nerd and pulled out my microscope
area rugs need to be vac'd, they are too dense to flush well but even that wont get it all, so running a duster/rug beater is really the only way but we dont offer that right now
