Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
They are a lot easier to clean when they're out of the burner Rob.
Thats the same thing was thinking about when I cleaned the back of the jet. If you clean just the orifice the crud in the back would plug it back up again.
I have to wait till Monday to get the new burner

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
I have no doubt they would be easier to clean outside the burner....thought I was going to go blind trying to insert the wire.
Actually, the problem was that I was going blind and cleaned it without glasses which I ended up getting a couple of months later.
It was like watching a drunk thread a needle the first time.
I suppose I will re-clean my burner while I wait for the new propane tank.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
If that LG is only a year old you probably wont need to, fire it up see how it looks.
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
I fixed the thread that broke on that heat exchanger so Im going to hook it up today just need a water temp gauge.
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
For you guys that have heat exchanger. The output for water is normally and the same side as the entrance of the exhaust?
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
So I connected the HX for it's first test. The machine ran at full throttle for 5 minutes, I didn't want to do it longer cause I don't have a temp relief valve installed.
Do you guys think a water heater relief valve will work on this heat exchanger?

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Your just testing with it up there right?
I think You should mound that rusty thing under your van..rather than have exhaust blowing in the van.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
I've been sanding it down looks like just surface rust.
I like in that location its out of the way it doesn't take up any space. I'll just point that exhaust out the side door.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Perfect, it'll be blowing right in your face.
That's one thing I don't miss, that stinky blower air and engine exhaust blowing on my pants, since I ran them under my van.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
I know that's what suck about the TNT the exhaust blows right out at you. Im going to angle it down.Â
I thought that temp increase was pretty impressive and the 70 degree tap water was higher than I thought.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
The old El Diablo that I worked with would aim exhaust right at my face. At least the tnt angles it downward....unless you are an elf anyway.
As long as you don't have some insulation above it or something, I don't see a problem with it in that location.
A good rise in temps, huh? Sounds interesting.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
70 degrees to 185?
That isn't bad for such a small exchanger. I wonder how well it can sustain that temp?

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Looks like I need to buy a temp gauge for the wand so I can find out. Â

Temp gauges for a wand is a must to me. I don't know how I got by without one before.
Seriously, for those without a gauge on the wand, can you honestly say that you never found yourself wondering about the temp while cleaning? Notice the hose seems a little hotter than normal maybe or noticing more steam...didn't you wonder what the temp was at that moment?
Gauges are cheap and can be installed easily. You will find yourself looking at more than your watch when cleaning.
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
I was thinking about using the Eastman Engine paint I used to paint the TNT on the heat exchanger but decided to go with an exhaust paint instead.
This paint should hold up. I bought it at Auto Zone.
I sanded it down but I should have used that Air Plane Stripper I used on the TNT that stuff is awesome. I forgot I had it. Doesn't that color just scream, "Danger! Danger! Do Not Touch"
I have to wait 7 days for the paint to cure That/s OK though cause I need to buy a new muffler that thing is gone no wonder its loud as heck.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Do you guys think wrapping the heat exchanger with a thermal barrier like kevlar, heat wrap will help conduct more heat? Or is it a hazard?
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Have it Ceramic Coated if you want max scavenging.
Seems to have worked on my Kohler exhaust.

Dang that thing is bright, paint TNT on it. And the paint you sprayed it with says it's ceramic. So leave it alone, like I said write tnt on it hang a cord in front of the exhaust outlet so it looks like a fuze. Lol.

That's a good one ACE. No one is going to get close to it if it looks like a dynamite stick right.ACE Services wrote:Dang that thing is bright, paint TNT on it. Someone post a link for thermal relief valve I can buy so it doesn't go boom on me will ya. Do you guys think I need one?
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Can clean and fix the pressure relief valves on the little giant? Its releasing water and Im only at 400 PSI
Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
That exchanger looks like it is on fire....it glows.
If someone touches that, they really are an idiot.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
See if there's a adjustment sometimes inside the hole were the water comes out there's a Allen screw that can be adjusted.

Re: Judson TNT Refurbish
Definitely need that thermal relief valve.
I helped a fellow cleaner today with an El Diablo that had a failed relief valve. The solution hose actually bubbled and it was rated for 275 degrees. It even darn near welded the qc to the swivel, we used a crow bar to separated them.

Thanks ACE. The barb side right. I saw a little seepage out of the other side too
